Frye Art Museum… Seattle
Hi Ted. There are a few artworks there I would like to get a lot closer to.Seattle is a place I should visit one day, yes?
The Frye is an interesting museum. Left to the city by the Fryes, this was their personal collection… pretty much hung in their house this way. Would love to show it to you someday, Kate.
Some of the most impressive collections of seen have been like that. Personal taste showcased over a lifetime of buying. There is nothing like seeing the world through someone else’s eyes that way. Have you ever been to the Sir John Soane’s Museum in London? He donated his house as well as his collection to the community to be a museum in perpetuity. It is amazing!
I hope one day I can take you up on the offer to show me the Museum. That would be so much fun! I’m sure there are many other wonderful things you could show me about your region and the USA!
Beautiful museum, beautiful paintings, beautiful photo.
Have never been to Seattle but the Phillips collection in DC in their old house is a favourite – lots of Bonnards.
Those opulent chairs are intriguing – love seats are usually in twos. Is there something we should know about Seattle?
You are right about the chairs. This is the way the Frye’s displayed their paintings at home 100 years ago. My cousin works at the Phillips in DC… I loved the tour, and of course, The Luncheon. The Seattle Art Museum is nice, but The Frye is special.
